स्थानीय लोगों ने महाराष्ट्र में सुल्तानपुर गांव का नाम बदलकर राहुल नगर किया

  • लगभग 1,000 और 600 घरों की आबादी वाले महाराष्ट्र के सुल्तानपुर गांव को अब 'राहुल नगर' के रूप में जाना जाएगा क्योंकि स्थानीय निवासियों ने अपने मूल निवासी की याद में इसका नाम बदल दिया है, जिन्होंने 26/11/2008 में मुंबई आतंकवादी हमले के दौरान आतंकवादियों से लड़ते हुए अपने प्राणों की आहुति दी थी। 
  • राज्य रिजर्व पुलिस बल (SRPF) के एक कांस्टेबल राहुल शिंदे ने 14 साल पहले हुए आतंकी हमलों के दौरान शहादत प्राप्त की थी।
  • शिंदे, जो सोलापुर जिले की माधा तहसील के सुल्तानपुर से ताल्लुक रखते हैं, आतंकवादियों द्वारा गोलीबारी की रिपोर्ट के बाद दक्षिण मुंबई में ताज महल पैलेस होटल में प्रवेश करने वाले पहले पुलिस कर्मियों में से एक थे। शिंदे के पेट में आतंकवादियों ने एक गोली मारी थी, जिसमें उनकी मौत हो गई थी।
  • 26 नवंबर, 2008 को, पाकिस्तान से लश्कर-ए-तैयबा के 10 आतंकवादी समुद्री मार्ग से पहुंचे और मुंबई में 60 घंटे की घेराबंदी के दौरान 18 सुरक्षाकर्मियों सहित 166 लोगों की मौत हो गई और कई अन्य घायल हो गए।
  • बाद में सुरक्षा बलों ने देश के विशिष्ट कमांडो बल एनएसजी सहित नौ आतंकवादियों को मार गिराया। अजमल कसाब इकलौता आतंकी था जिसे जिंदा पकड़ा गया था। चार साल बाद 21 नवंबर 2012 को उन्हें फांसी दे दी गई।
