Justice DY Chandrachud to be the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI)

Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud is set to take over as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI) after the country's top judge UU Lalit formally recommended him as his successor on October 11.
CJI Lalit will step down on November 8 after a brief tenure of over two months. Justice Chandrachud will take oath the next day and will hold office till November 10, 2024.
Justice Lalit had taken charge in August when he succeeded Justice NV Ramana.
He would have completed a 74-day tenure by then.
Justice D Y Chandrachud had earlier served as the Additional Solicitor General of India in 1998. He was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court in 2013.
He has been associated with the Bombay High Court too. He was elevated as a judge in the top court in 2016.
