  • In this championship, Indian Chess Grandmaster Karthikeyan Murali won the title by defeating world champion Magnus Carlsen.
  • Karthikeyan Murali has become the third Indian player to defeat Magnus Carlsen.
  • Earlier, Harikrishna and Vishwanathan Anand have also defeated Carlsen.
  • Karthikeyan's victory came in the seventh round of the tournament, where he skillfully used the black pieces.
  • Karthikeyan Murali is an Indian Grand Master.
  • He was declared a Grand Master by FIDE in the year 2015.
