India to stop importing urea by end of 2025: Mandaviya

  • According to Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, India will stop importing urea by the end of 2025. 
  • He ensured that a massive thrust on domestic manufacturing had helped bridge the gap between supply and demand.
  • The government of India has set a target to completely stop the import of urea by 2025, which aims to reduce the gap between supply and demand with an increase in domestic production.
  • Government has taken steps to promote alternative fertilizers, such as Nano Liquid Urea and Nano Liquid Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP), which promote the convergent use of chemical fertilizers.
  • The government has launched the 'PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Nutrition and Improvement of Mother Earth' (PM-PRANAM) scheme, with the main objective of encouraging States and Union Territories (UTs) to use alternative fertilizers.
