  • India's first battery storage Gigafactory will be operational in Jammu and Kashmir by October, helping cut carbon emissions by 5 million tonnes per year.
  • The target of this factory is equivalent to Indian Railways' carbon reduction target of 4 million tonnes, which supports India's goal of achieving net zero by 2070.
  • Goodenough Energy has invested Rs 1.5 billion for this gigafactory, which will be increased to 20 GWH by 2027.
  • This is crucial for India's goal of reaching 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 from the current 178 GW.
  • The main goal of this gigafactory is to establish an integrated ecosystem, which strengthens storage systems and facilitates the production of advanced battery energy.
