Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh represented India as the special envoy of the Prime Minister at the Sharm El-Sheikh Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt, a landmark diplomatic conference aimed at consolidating the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and charting a framework for lasting peace in Gaza and the broader Middle East. The summit, co-chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, saw participation from over 20 world leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Key outcomes included a supervised hostage exchange, with Hamas releasing 20 hostages and Israel freeing nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, as well as agreements on the return of remains of deceased hostages and soldiers. The summit also established a plan for Gaza’s post-war reconstruction and a regional dialogue mechanism to prevent future escalation. India reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful resolution through dialogue, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction support, while experts hailed the summit as a historic step toward stability and peace in the Middle East.
