India Enters Advanced Memory Manufacturing with Micron’s Sanand Facility

  • Micron Technology has begun operations at its advanced memory ATMP facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a major milestone in India’s semiconductor journey. The plant shipped its first finished DRAM module to Dell Technologies. Inaugurated by Narendra Modi, it is India’s first advanced memory Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) site.
  • The unit houses a 500,000 sq ft raised-floor clean room, the world’s largest of its kind; designed for Gujarat’s climate and rated Class 1000, ensuring ultra-low particle levels to protect delicate semiconductor components.
  • The facility assembles and tests DRAM and NAND flash memory using a wafer-in to finished-product-out model. With a planned $2.7 billion investment, production is expected to scale to nearly one billion units annually by 2027. Employing 1,300 people, the plant integrates AI-driven automation and global-standard yield systems, strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem and reducing technology import dependence.
