India ends trans-shipment facility for Bangladesh

Category : International
Published on: April 11 2025 Share on facebook

  • India has discontinued the trans-shipment facility provided to Bangladesh, citing “heavy congestion” at its airports and ports.
  • Under this facility, Bangladesh was allowed to export goods to third countries using Indian customs stations.
  • However, due to the increasing usage of this route by Bangladesh, Indian ports and airports were experiencing significant congestion.
  • The growing backlog, delays in logistics, and rising costs were also impacting India’s own exports. As a result, the government decided to withdraw this facility with effect from April 8, 2025.
  • However, India clarified that this move will not affect Bangladesh's exports to Nepal or Bhutan through Indian territory.
