India ends trans-shipment facility for Bangladesh

India has discontinued the trans-shipment facility provided to Bangladesh, citing “heavy congestion” at its airports and ports.
Under this facility, Bangladesh was allowed to export goods to third countries using Indian customs stations.
However, due to the increasing usage of this route by Bangladesh, Indian ports and airports were experiencing significant congestion.
The growing backlog, delays in logistics, and rising costs were also impacting India’s own exports. As a result, the government decided to withdraw this facility with effect from April 8, 2025.
However, India clarified that this move will not affect Bangladesh's exports to Nepal or Bhutan through Indian territory.
