India and Germany Strengthen Climate Adaptation Cooperation with €20 Million Grant

  • India and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to climate adaptation and resilience during a high-level Climate Talk in New Delhi. The dialogue focused on ecosystem-based approaches and support for India’s upcoming National Adaptation Plan (NAP). Jochen Flasbarth announced a new Large Grant project under the International Climate Initiative, providing up to EUR 20 million for India.
  • The project will enhance resilience in high-risk ecosystems, including the Himalayas, Western Ghats, North-East, island territories, and Lower Gangetic floodplains. It will promote forest restoration, biodiversity corridors, flood control, groundwater recharge, and community-led resource management. Innovative financing tools such as blended finance, biodiversity credits, and insurance-based risk solutions will also be explored.
  • India’s NAP, being finalised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, aims to integrate climate resilience into development planning, reflecting the global shift toward adaptation alongside mitigation.
