Hrishikesh Kanitkar appointed Indian women's team batting coach

  • Former India cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been appointed the batting coach of the women's cricket team.
  • The top-order batter Kanitkar, who represented India in 2 Tests and 34 one-dayers has a significant experience in coaching. 
  • He has previously coached Goa and Tamil Nadu Ranji teams and was also part of the VVS Laxman-led coaching staff in the recently concluded men's white-ball series in New Zealand.
  • Kanitkar was also the coach of the U-19 cricket team which earlier this year won the World Cup.
  • On the other hand, former head coach of the women’s team Ramesh Powar will now join Laxman at the National Cricket Academy as part of the restructuring module of the BCCI.
