  • Former world number one and two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep announced her retirement from professional tennis on February 4, 2025, after losing in the first round of her home tournament in Cluj. 
  • Halep, whose career was interrupted due to a doping ban that was reduced on appeal last year, lost her first match of 2025 to Italy's Lucia Bronzetti 6-1, 6-1, after which she declared her decision.
