Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet was awarded the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development by Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust. The award honors Bachelet’s lifelong work for human rights, gender equality, and global justice. Sonia Gandhi highlighted her remarkable journey through loss, torture and exile and her historic role as Latin America's first woman Defence Minister, Chile's President and the first head of UN Women. In her acceptance speech, Bachelet praised Indira Gandhi’s legacy and called for global harmony and stronger multilateral cooperation.
