World Athletics has introduced a new rule requiring all female athletes competing in global ranking events — including World Championships — to undergo a one-time SRY gene test to confirm biological sex. The test, conducted through cheek swab or blood, will be overseen by national federations. This rule, intended to safeguard the integrity of women’s sports, comes into effect from September 1, 2025, ahead of the World Championships scheduled in Tokyo from September 13 to 21.
