DRDO's High-Speed Expendable Aerial Target successfully completes developmental trials

  • DRDO successfully tested the High-Speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) 'ABHYAS' at Chandipur, Odisha, demonstrating its improved Radar Cross Section and performance in various conditions. It is now ready for production and induction into the Indian armed forces.
  • Designed by DRDO's Aeronautical Development Establishment in Bengaluru, ABHYAS is being produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T). Its booster and navigation system were developed by DRDO laboratories in Hyderabad.
  • ABHYAS serves as a dummy enemy aerial vehicle for target practice by the Indian armed forces, controlled via ground-based laptops to simulate realistic combat scenarios and enhance weapon system proficiency.
