·         The nation celebrates Engineer's Day on 15 September to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great Indian engineer Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

·         This day is celebrated to recognize the contribution of engineers in the development of the nation.

·         He was awarded with the 'Bharat Ratna' in 1955 for his exceptional contribution to the making of India.

·         He has also been awarded the British Knighthood and served as the Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918.

v  Died: 12 April 1962, Bangalore

v  Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya KCIE FASC (15 September 1860 – 14 April 1962), commonly known as Sir MV, was an Indian civil engineer, politician and the 19th Diwan of Mysore, who served from 1912 to 1919. ... He received India's highest honor Bharat Ratna in 1955.
