  • The Bangladesh Nationalist Party secured a decisive victory in Bangladesh’s general elections, winning 209 of 300 seats, officials confirmed in Dhaka. The polls marked the first election since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with her Awami League barred from contesting.
  • The Jamaat-e-Islami bloc won 77 seats but questioned vote counting and threatened protests. According to the Bangladesh Election Commission, turnout reached 59.44%, significantly higher than the 2024 polls. A parallel referendum approved sweeping governance reforms under the July Charter.
