Bihar Declared Naxal-Free After Last Maoist Surrenders

  • Bihar has been officially declared free of Naxal activities following the surrender of the last armed Maoist, Suresh Koda, in Munger district. All 23 previously affected districts now have no active armed Naxalite squads, marking a historic milestone in the State’s fight against Left Wing Extremism.
  • The surrendered cadre will receive benefits under the Central Government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, including financial aid, vocational training, and reintegration support. Naxalism in Bihar dates back to the 1970s, and coordinated security operations and development initiatives have gradually dismantled extremist networks.
  • Officials reported zero Naxal incidents in 2025, along with 220 arrests, reflecting sustained enforcement. The declaration paves the way for improved internal security and socio-economic development in previously affected areas.
