Australia captain Aaron Finch announces retirement from ODI cricket

  • Australian limited overs skipper Aaron Finch decided to say goodbye to the one-day international (ODI) format of the game.
  • The 35-year-old will play his 146th and final ODI in Cairns against New Zealand.
  • He has an outstanding career in the 50-over game in which he has scored 5,401 runs.
  • His 17 centuries put him behind only greats Ricky Ponting (29), David Warner and Mark Waugh (both 18).
  • He made his debut against Sri Lanka at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 2013 and smashed his maiden hundred against Scotland, scoring 148 runs.
  • He was appointed as the permanent white-ball captain after the fallout of the ball-tampering scandal in 2018 which saw Steve Smith banned.
