Attukal Pongal is a significant festival celebrated by Malayali women at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It holds the Guinness World Record for the largest congregation of women and is often referred to as the Sabarimala of women.
Women prepare traditional dishes like Pongala and Payasam as offerings to the Goddess Bhagavathy during Attukal Pongal. The ritual of cooking these sweet dishes is a central aspect of the festival, symbolizing devotion and gratitude towards the deity.
Attukal Pongal is celebrated annually over a period of ten days and is considered one of the most popular festivals in South Kerala. The festival attracts a large number of devotees, especially women, who gather to participate in the rituals and seek blessings from Goddess Bhagavathy.
