Under the Indian Defence, there are many Popular Jobs, Airmen in Group X is one of them. A notification, for the recruitment of Airmen in Group X and Group Y Trades, has been released by IAF (Indian Air Force). For X group candidates, who have passed 10+2 in Mathematics, Physics, and English with minimum 50% marks or having a polytechnic diploma of Three years with minimum 50% marks, may apply for this Group. For Y group candidates, who have passed 10+2 or equivalent in any subject with 50% marks, may apply for this Group.
Candidates will be selected on the basis of online Test, Physical Standard Test (PST) and Medical Examination.

Exam Introduction
The Indian Air Force Group Y exam is an online exam, conducted to select technical and non-technical Airmen for Air Force via a series of written and physical fitness exam. This exam is conducted by Air Force to fill vacancies for ground duties according to the trade of the selected airmen.
Some points to note for application to Air Force Group Y exam:
- Only married/unmarried Males (Indian/Nepalese) can apply.
- Female applicants are not eligible to apply.
- Applicant may be a civilian or a serving Non-Combatant Enrolled employee of Air Force.
Essential Educational Qualifications for Air Force Group Y 2021 :
Group ‘Y’ (Except Automobile Technician, Indian Air Force (Police), Indian Air Force (Security), Medical Assistant and Musician).
Applicants who have passed Intermediate / 10+2 or any Equivalent Examination in any stream/ subjects as approved by Central / State Education Boards( listed as COBSE member) with an of minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English
OR
Candidates who have Passed a vocational course of two years duration from Education Boards (listed as COBSE member) with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English in vocational course or 50 % marks in Intermediate/Matriculation if English is not a subject in Vocational Course.
Note - 1: Candidate who are eligible for Group ‘X’ examination (on the basis of intermediate/10+2) are also eligible for Group Y and shall be given an option to appear in both group X and Group Y exam in the same (one) sitting while filling up the online registration form.
Note - 2: Diploma holders are eligible to appear for Group X trades only.
Note - 3: Only the Education Boards listed in the Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE) website as members, as on date of registration shall be considered.
Note - 4: Exact aggregate percentage of marks before decimal as written in the mark sheet of 10+2/ Intermediate/Equivalent Examination/Three years Diploma Course OR calculated as per the rules of concerned Education Board/Polytechnic Institute shall ONLY be considered (For example 49.99% should be taken as 49% and not be rounded off to 50%).
Age limit:
(a) Candidates born between 16 January 2001 and 29 December 2004 (both days inclusive) are eligible to apply for Air Force Group Y 2021 exam.
(b) In case, a candidate clears all the stages of the selection procedure, then the upper age limit as of the date of enrolment is 21 years.
Mandatory Medical Standards:
General Medical Standards for Group ‘Y’ (Except Auto Tech, IAF(P), IAF(S), and Musician)
(i) Height: Minimum acceptable height shall be 152.5 cms.
(ii) Chest: Minimum range of expansion: 5 cm
(iii) Weight: Proportionate to height and age. However, a minimum weight of 55 Kg required for Operations Assistant (ATS) Trade only.
(iv) Corneal Surgery (PRK/ LASIK) shall not be acceptable.
(v) Hearing: Candidate should have normal hearing i.e., able to hear forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
(vi) Dental: Should have healthy gums, a good set of teeth, and a minimum of 14 dental points.
(vii) General Health: Candidate should be of normal anatomy without loss of any appendages. He should be free from any active or latent, acute or chronic, medical or surgical disability or infection, and skin ailments. Candidate shall be physically and mentally FIT to perform duty in any part of the world, in any climate and terrain.
Note: Minimum height acceptable for recruitment will be 152.5 cms. For the following trades the minimum required height (determined at training centers) would be as indicated: -

The Examination will be conducted in four tiers as indicated below:
- Phase-I: Online Written Test
- Phase-II: Physical Fitness Test, AT-I and AT-II Test

Scheme of Phase-II Examinations:
Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
Candidates will be required to complete the following Physical Fitness Tests:
- 1.6 Km run within 06 minutes 30 seconds.
- 10 Push-ups,
- 10 Sit-ups
- 20 Squats within the stipulated time to qualify in the Physical Fitness Test.
Note: Candidates are advised to bring their sports shoes and shorts/track pants.
Adaptability Test- 1 (For Group ‘Y’ Trades)
All candidates who pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will be required to undertake Adaptability Test-1 (objective type written test). This assesses the suitability of a candidate for employment in the IAF which involves deployment in different geographic terrains, weather, and operational conditions.
Adaptability Test- 2 (For Group ‘Y’ Trades)
All candidates who have passed Adaptability Test - 1 will be required to undertake Adaptability Test- 2 as per policy at the time. Adaptability Test- 2 is to select candidates who can adapt to the environment of the Indian Air Force and are able to adjust to the military way of life.
Note: Candidates who qualify the Selection Tests of more than one Group/Trade-in Scheduled Test and Rallies held during the cycle January to June 2020 and whose names appear in more than one PSLs published on the same date i.e, 31 October 2020 shall be called for enrolment in only one Group/Trade as per the requirement of IAF.
Scheme of Phase-III Examinations:
Medical Examination:
Candidates who qualify for Adaptability Test-2 shall be issued with a medical appointment letter at respective ASCs. It can also be downloaded under the candidate’s login on CASB web portal www.airmenselection.cdac.in for their medical examination at designated Medical Boarding Centre (MBC) on a specified date. Medical Examination shall be conducted by Air Force Medical Team as per IAF medical standards and policy in vogue on subject issue. Medical examination would also include baseline investigation of:-
(a) Blood Haemogram - Hb, TLC, DLC
(b) Urine RE/ME
(c) Biochemistry :- (i) Blood Sugar Fasting & PP (ii) Serum Cholesterol (iii) Urea, Uric acid, Creatinine (iv) LFT—Serum Bilurubin, SGOT, SGPT
(d) X-Ray chest (PA view)
(e) ECG (R)
(f) Tests for Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance Abuse.
(g) Any other test necessary in the opinion of the Medical Officer.
