World Turtle Day is observed on 23rd May, dedicated to raising awareness about the need for turtle and tortoise conservation.
It aims to bring attention to the threats they face and to promote their protection and survival.
World Turtle Day was founded in 2000 by the American Tortoise Rescue (ATR), a nonprofit organization established in 1990 to protect all species of tortoise and turtle.
ATR founders Susan Tellem and Marshall Thompson created this day to increase respect for and knowledge about one of the world’s oldest creatures.
The theme of World Turtle Day 2024 is “Let’s Party” featuring rescue favorites Bunkl, Spinner, and Evil waking up from hibernation.
