  • World Turtle Day is observed on 23rd May, dedicated to raising awareness about the need for turtle and tortoise conservation.
  • It aims to bring attention to the threats they face and to promote their protection and survival.
  • World Turtle Day was founded in 2000 by the American Tortoise Rescue (ATR), a nonprofit organization established in 1990 to protect all species of tortoise and turtle.
  • ATR founders Susan Tellem and Marshall Thompson created this day to increase respect for and knowledge about one of the world’s oldest creatures.
  • The theme of World Turtle Day 2024 is “Let’s Party” featuring rescue favorites Bunkl, Spinner, and Evil waking up from hibernation.
