  • Every Year March 24 is observed as 'World Tuberculosis Day' acorss the globe. 
  • This day aims at raising awareness regarding the causes, symptoms and treatments of tuberculosis which is a deadly disease. 
  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) organises this day each year with a specific theme to promote tuberculosis (TB) awareness.
  • Dr. Robert Koch revealed his discovery of the tuberculosis-causing bacteria on this date in 1882.
  • The term "TB" was referred to as "phthisis" in the anxious green period, "tabes" in ancient Rome, and "schachepheth" in ancient Hebrew. In the 1800s, consumption was another name for tuberculosis.
  • "Yes! We can end TB!" is the theme for World Tuberculosis Day 2023 this year.
