World Polio Day is celebrated every year on 24 October to raise awareness about polio disease.
World Polio Day is celebrated by Rotary International to commemorate the birthday of medical researcher Jonas Salk.
Jonas Salk led the first team to develop a polio vaccine.
In the year 1955, he created inactivated poliovirus vaccine.
In the year 1962, Albert Sabin created the oral polio vaccine.
India became a polio free country in the year 2014.
This day is being celebrated every year since 2002.
Polio is an infectious disease caused by polio virus mainly in small children.
This disease weakens any organ of the child for life.
The theme of Polio Day for the year 2023 is 'A healthy future for mother and child'.
