·       World Maritime Day is celebrated every year on 30 September by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

·       During World Maritime Day, good initiatives are taken by IMO to draw public attention to a particular area along with maritime safety and marine environment.

·       The main objective of the IMO is to focus on areas such as security, environmental issues, legal issues, technical cooperation, maritime security and maritime efficiency.

·       March 17, 1978 was the day when World Maritime Day was celebrated for the first time.

·       This year's theme is "Sailors: At the core of the future of shipping", which aims to expand the visibility of seafarers by highlighting the important roles they are playing now and will continue to play in the near future.
