World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is observed annually on August 19th to honor aid workers who devote their lives to humanitarian efforts.
This day was established in memory of the 2003 bombing of the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq, which tragically claimed 22 lives.
The 2024 World Humanitarian Day campaign, #ActForHumanity, aims to tackle the increasing violence against humanitarian workers and civilians, calling for the strict enforcement of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) to end the impunity for such breaches.
