  • A resolution to celebrate this day was passed by the United Nations General Assembly in the year 2019.
  • The proposal to celebrate this day was given by the African countries Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali.
  • This day was celebrated for the first time in the year 2019 itself.
  • The theme of World Cotton Day 2023 has been 'Making cotton fair and sustainable for all from farm to fashion'.
  • The reason for celebrating this day is to make all the necessary changes to increase and promote cotton production.
  • Along with this, work is also done to provide facilities for the technologies required for its production and to improve the condition of the workers engaged in the cotton business.
  • India's Central Cotton Research Institute is located in Nagpur.
