World Children's Day is marked every year on November 20 to commemorate the UN General Assembly's adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child on the same day in 1959.
The day is observed around the world to promote children's rights while also raising their living standards. It also fosters worldwide cooperation and develops children's awareness in order to improve their well-being.
Universal Children's Day is not only a day to celebrate children for who they are, but it is also a day to raise awareness about children around the world who have been victims of violence in the form of abuse, exploitation, or prejudice.
The International Labour Organization adopted the Prohibition and Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in 1999.
This year's theme is "A Better Future for Every Child."
