World Asteroid Day 2022 (also known as International Asteroid Day) is marked and celebrated globally on June 30 every year.
It is usually observed in order to raise public awareness about asteroid's hazardous effect and the measures that should be taken in case of a near-Earth object threat.
This day is declared by United Nations General Assembly in December 2016.
The date was chosen to observe the anniversary of the Tunguska asteroid impact over Siberia, on June 30, 1908.
The theme for International Asteroid Day 2022 is 'small is beautiful'.
The Asteroids are the celestial rocks that are smaller than a planet but revolve around the sun like them.
