  • World Asteroid Day 2022 (also known as International Asteroid Day) is marked and celebrated globally on June 30 every year.
  • It is usually observed in order to raise public awareness about asteroid's hazardous effect and the measures that should be taken in case of a near-Earth object threat.
  • This day is declared by United Nations General Assembly in   December 2016.
  • The date was chosen to observe the anniversary of the Tunguska asteroid impact over Siberia, on June 30, 1908.
  • The theme for International Asteroid Day 2022 is 'small is beautiful'.
  • The Asteroids are the celestial rocks that are smaller than a planet but revolve around the sun like them.
