  • World Arabic Language Day is celebrated on 18 December, which honours the Middle Eastern region's cultural richness as well as the language is spoken there.
  • The annual celebration of Arabic culture takes place on the anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of Arabic as the Organization's sixth official language in 1973.
  • Arabic is classified as part of the Semitic language family, which also includes Hebrew and Aramaic.
  • The theme for World Arabic Language Day in 2021 has been announced by UNESCO as "Arabic Language, a Bridge between civilisations.’
  • This theme emphasises Arabic's historic role in information creation and dissemination, as well as promoting conversation and peacebuilding.
