  • The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) of NITI Aayog and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) have signed a letter of intent to develop programs promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property in the Global South.
  • The agreement was formalized in New Delhi on July 22, 2024, with key officials including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, NITI Aayog Vice-Chairperson Suman Bery, and AIM Mission Director Dr. Chintan Vaishnav present.
  • The collaboration aims to replicate India's innovation models in countries of the Global South, enhancing understanding and awareness of intellectual property rights from a young age to foster innovation and promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
  • The Global South includes underdeveloped, less developed, and developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, while the Global North consists of industrialized nations like those in Europe, North America, and select parts of Asia and Oceania.
