  • US President Joe Biden on Monday appointed former Indian-American diplomat Vinai Thummalapally as Deputy Director and Chief Executive Officer to the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).
  • Vinai Tummalapalli was previously the Executive Director of SelectUSA, a US Department of Commerce division that promotes job creation and corporate investment in the US.
  • He is the country's first Indian-American ambassador.
  • While studying in the United States, he shared a room with former US President Barack Obama. During the Obama administration, Vinai was appointed US Ambassador to Belize.
