  • The Central Government has named Vikram Misri, a former Indian Ambassador to China and China expert, as the country's new Deputy National Security Advisor (Deputy NSA). He will report to Ajit Doval, the present National Security Advisor.
  • Vikram Misri will succeed current Deputy NSA Pankaj Sharan, who will step down on December 31, 2021.
  • Vikram Misri is an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 1989 batch. In December 2018, the government appointed him as India's Ambassador to China. Aside from that, his role was pivotal in the Doklam controversy in 2017.
  • At present, Rajinder Khanna, Pankaj Saran and Dattatray Padsalgikar are serving as deputy NSAs.
