  • Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh took over as the Commandant of the National Defence Academy on 25 May 2024, succeeding Vice Admiral Ajay Kocchar. 
  • An NDA alumnus, Singh was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 1 July 1990 and has held several key positions throughout his career.
  • A specialist in Gunnery and Missiles, Vice Admiral Singh has served on multiple Indian Naval Ships, including Ranjit, Prahar, Brahmaputra, Shivalik, and Kochi. He has commanded INS Vidyut and INS Khukri, served as an instructor at INS Dronacharya, and held staff appointments at Naval Headquarters. 
  • He was previously the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet and was elevated to Vice Admiral on 15 January 2024, subsequently serving as Controller Personnel Service.
