US researchers announced a historic nuclear fusion breakthrough, hailing a "landmark achievement" in the quest for a source of unlimited, clean power and an end to reliance on fossil fuels.
This nuclear fusion breakthrough could provide unlimited clean energy and aid in the fight against climate change.
For the first time in history, American scientists conducted a nuclear fusion reaction at the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, USA, producing pure energy (carbon free energy) similar to that of the Sun.
Scientists believe that if all goes well, America's reliance on fossil fuels such as gas, gasoline, and diesel can be reduced.
Nuclear fusion is the process by which two light atomic nuclei combine to form a single heavier one, releasing massive amounts of energy in the process.
