  • Uttar Pradesh will establish the Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre in Maharajganj, aimed at boosting the population of the critically endangered Asian king vultures, also known as red-headed vultures.
  • The centre addresses the significant decline of Asian king vultures, listed as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) since 2007, primarily due to habitat loss and poisoning from the drug diclofenac.
  • The facility will ensure the health and pairing of vultures, allowing them to breed. Once a female lays an egg, the vulture pair will be released into their natural environment to promote a sustainable population growth.
