The Centre has granted a one-year extension to Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla until August 22, 2024.
The decision was announced through a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved this extension, marking the fourth time Bhalla's tenure has been extended.
Originally set to retire in November 2020 after a two-year term, his tenure was first extended on October 17, 2020, until August 22, 2021.
Subsequently, he received two additional one-year extensions until the current extension. This move is significant as the government faces various internal security challenges, including unrest in Manipur and the rise of pro-Khalistan elements.
