India’s 2024–25 nomination, the “Maratha Military Landscapes,” was officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee. This network of 12 forts dating from the 17th to 19th centuries highlights the strategic acumen and architectural brilliance of the Maratha Empire. With this inclusion, India now ranks 6th globally and 2nd in Asia-Pacific in terms of World Heritage Sites.
