Seventy-two nations have signed the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, or Hanoi Convention, marking a historic step toward global digital security. Adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2024, it establishes the first universal framework to combat cybercrimes such as ransomware, fraud, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images. Hosted by Vietnam with UNODC, the event saw participation from 119 countries. UN Secretary-General António Guterres called it a powerful, legally binding pact to ensure no nation is left defenceless in cyberspace.
