  • Udaipur is known as the city of lakes.
  • As per the announcement of October 2023, Udaipur will become India's first wetland city.
  • This wetland will be created by the 'Environment and Forest Department' of Rajasthan.
  • Udaipur is surrounded by 5 major lakes namely – Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar and Doodh Talai.
  • It will be developed under the National Lake Conservation Plan.
  • Ramsar Convention is an international treaty.
  • This treaty has been made for the conservation of wetlands.
  • This treaty was signed in Ramsar, Iran in the year 1975.
