  • The Meghalaya government unveiled a life-size statue of Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syem in Dhaka, Bangladesh as a mark of his sacrifice.
  • The statue of the great freedom fighter was unveiled by Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Saniawbhalang Dhar, whose team also included state Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh and government officials.
  • In a special statement, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma thanked the governments and Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and India for the installation of the statue of U Tirot Singh in Dhaka.
  • U Tirot Sing Syem started the freedom struggle by attacking the British garrison in 1829, after which his martyrdom took place in Dhaka.
