At the National Institute of Standards and Technology, researchers have developed a ‘quantum logic clock’ that can measure time with precision up to the 19th decimal place. It pairs aluminium and magnesium ions using quantum computing techniques, and is 2.6 times more stable than any previous ion-based atomic clocks.
