  • On July 25, Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto disqualified two MLAs, Lobin Hembrom from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Jai Prakash Bhai Patel from Congress, under the anti-defection law, effective from July 26.
  • The disqualification came just before the six-day monsoon session of the Jharkhand Assembly.
  • The anti-defection law, introduced in 1985 and strengthened in 2003, aims to prevent legislators from switching parties or voting against their party's directives.
