Nagi and Nakti bird sanctuaries in Bihar's Jamui district have been added to the global list of wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, increasing India's total to 82.
The newly recognized wetlands are man-made reservoirs located in the Jhajha forest range, featuring catchments with dry deciduous forests and surrounded by hills.
This recognition highlights the ecological importance of these wetlands and their role in biodiversity conservation, as emphasized by Bandana Preyashi, Secretary of Bihar's Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (DEFCC).
