  • On 22 May 2024, General Tu Lam was elected the new President of Vietnam by the Vietnamese Parliament. Previously he was Vietnam's Minister of Public Security and was removed as a minister by the Vietnamese parliament for the presidency. 
  • Tu Lam is a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and has been elected to a term until 2026.
  • General To Lam led the anti-corruption campaign "blazing furnace" in the country from 2016 as Minister of Public Security. 
  • The campaign attempted to root out widespread corruption in Vietnam, resulting in the recent resignation of three of the country's top five leaders.
