  • TS Tirumurti, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has been appointed as Chairman of the Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee for 2022.
  • India is currently a non-permanent member of the Security Council of 15 countries and its two-year term ends on December 31, 2022.
  • The Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) was established in 2001 in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
  • Before assuming his current position as India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in May 2020, Tirumurti has also served as Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs to oversee the Economic Relations portfolio.
