The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026 have been released, evaluating universities worldwide on research, teaching, innovation and international outlook. The University of Oxford retained its number one position for the tenth consecutive year. From India, four institutions made it to the global rankings: Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, and Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan. IISc Bangalore remains the highest-ranked Indian institute, placed in the 201–300 range globally, while IIT Delhi and IIT Madras also fall within the same range. Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan debuted in the rankings this year. The rankings highlight India’s growing emphasis on quality higher education and research, signaling an increasing international competitiveness of its universities.
