The IUCN World Heritage Outlook 4 Report has flagged India’s Western Ghats, Manas National Park (Assam) and Sundarbans National Park (West Bengal) as sites of “Significant Concern”, indicating serious threats to their ecological integrity. The report identifies climate change, uncontrolled tourism, invasive alien species, and infrastructure expansion as major challenges, with climate change emerging as the most critical. Home to hundreds of endangered species, these UNESCO World Heritage Sites represent vital biodiversity hotspots that require urgent and coordinated conservation action.
