The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati director TG Sitharam has been appointed as the new chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Prof Sitharam will take the charge from Jagadesh Kumar, who was holding interim charge of the AICTE chairman post since last year.
Professor Sitharam is a member of Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
He has been serving as the IIT Guwahati Director and a Senior Professor in Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and served IISc for more than 27 years.
Prior to this, Sitharam was the founder-chairman of the Centre for Infrastructure, Sustainable Transport and Urban Planning (CiSTUP) at IISc, Bengaluru.
