The Telangana government has banned the manufacture, storage, distribution, transportation, and sale of gutka and pan masala containing tobacco and nicotine for one year, effective from May 24, 2024. This ban is aimed at protecting public health.
The prohibition will be enforced under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The Food Safety Commissioner issued the order, ensuring the ban's legal backing and enabling stringent measures against violations.
The ban encompasses all forms of packaging, including sachets, pouches, packages, and containers, regardless of the name under which the products are sold.
This statewide ban applies uniformly across Telangana, aiming to eliminate these harmful products from the market.
