Tamil Nadu Governor R.N Ravi has granted his assent to the Bill seeking to ban online gambling and regulate online gaming.
He gave ascent to 'Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games' Bill.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly had unanimously adopted the bill to ban online gambling again on March 23, weeks after state Governor R N Ravi returned it to the government for reconsideration.
MK Stalin, who took office as Tamil Nadu chief minister in May 2021, had set up a five-member committee led by retired Justice K Chandru to analyse the negative effects of these games and make recommendations for a new law prohibiting "online gambling games" on June 10, 2022.
5000 fine or 3 months imprisonment for playing or gambling on prohibited online gambling sites. This bill was signed by the governor under Article 200 of the Constitution of India.
